Bronchopulmonary dysplasia: early diagnosis, prophylaxis, and treatment.

چکیده
ary dysplasia.2 The incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia among ventilated infants varies, depending on gestational age, from 4-2% to as high as 40%,'1 4 but increases up to 70% among infants in whom it is necessary to prolong mechanical ventilation beyond two weeks.5 Such infants have an increased mortality and morbidity even after discharge from neonatal intensive care. Readmission is common during the first two years of life and infants suffer from recurrent respiratory symptoms with persistent lung function abnormalities. Thus it is most important to determine if the course of this disease may be altered and if it is preventable.

A risk factor analysis on disease severity in 47 premature infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) is a rare chronic lung disease and one of the most difficult complications to treat in premature infants. With the progress at the medical treatment level, an increasing number of BPD premature infants are born, meanwhile, they would be at an increasing risk for numerous complications and rehospitalization because BPD affects many vital organ systems. The pathog...
متن کاملCould mean platelet volume predict developing of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome?
Introduction: some studies have suggested correlation between MPV index and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis in adults. Though bronchopulmonary dysplasia is also an inflammatory disease which develops in preterm neonates with Respiratory distress syndrome, we decided to study the possible correlation between the mean platelet volume (MPV) and the occurrence of bronchopulmonary...
متن کاملProphylaxis of early adrenal insufficiency to prevent bronchopulmonary dysplasia: a multicenter trial.
BACKGROUND Infants developing bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) show decreased cortisol response to adrenocorticotropic hormone. A pilot study of low-dose hydrocortisone therapy for prophylaxis of early adrenal insufficiency showed improved survival without BPD at 36 weeks' postmenstrual age, particularly in infants exposed to histologic chorioamnionitis. METHODS Mechanically ventilated infant...
متن کاملGrowth and neurodevelopmental outcomes after early low-dose hydrocortisone treatment in extremely low birth weight infants.
BACKGROUND Low cortisol concentrations in premature infants have been correlated with increased severity of illness, hypotension, mortality, and development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia. A total of 360 mechanically ventilated infants with a birth weight of 500 to 999 g were enrolled in a randomized, multicenter trial of prophylaxis of early adrenal insufficiency to prevent bronchopulmonary dys...
متن کاملComparing the Efficacy of High and Low Doses of Vitamin A in Prevention of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia
Background Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is one of the most common serious squeal of preterm infants. It involves approximately one quarter of infants with birth weight less than 1500 grams and 30% of less than 1000 grams. Vitamin A has been shown to reduce BPD rate. We compared efficacy of low and high doses of vitamin A for prevention of BPD in very low birth weight preterm infants. Materi...
